SUMMARY:Uniting for Health: Engaging Latino/a/x Faith-Based Organizations in HIV Prevention
DESCRIPTION:In minority communities\, faith often unifies individuals across socioeconomic status\, educational levels\, and other social factors. In particular\, people look to faith leaders in their community with trust and respect. Secular organizations that address HIV prevention can share common goals with faith-based organizations (FBOs)\, and therefore it is important for secular organizations to work collaboratively with FBOs and faith leaders in order to reach people who are disproportionately affected by HIV. \n\n\n\n\n\nJoin Alive! The faculty will give an overview of Latino/a/x-focused FBOs in Maryland\, explore the personal assessment process as well as the development of strategic religious engagement plans\, and provide various resources. Participants will also learn strategies for effectively forming mutually beneficial relationships with diverse Latino/a/x faith groups in order to further their HIV prevention work. \nLearning Objectives\n\nDefine Strategic Religious Engagement and other key terms inherent within diverse faith cultures\nList at least three prevalent faith groups within the Latinx community\nDiscuss common challenges at the intersection of Faith and HIV\nList at least three resources for ongoing engagement capacity development\nDevelop a Strategic Religious Engagement plan
