SUMMARY:Utilizing Biomedical Interventions to Advance Ending the HIV Epidemic in the US
DESCRIPTION:Ending the HIV Epidemic in the US (EHE) is an ambitious initiative that aims to reduce new HIV infections in the US by 90% by 2030 by scaling up key HIV prevention and treatment strategies. \nJoin Alive! Maryland on Tuesday\, April 25 at 1:00pm ET for a webinar that will provide an overview of EHE\, as well as the context and current state of the HIV epidemic. This webinar will also address different forms of PrEP and PrEP formulations\, how PrEP is utilized\, side effects of PrEP use\, and barriers to HIV treatment. The presentation will include case studies to illustrate these topics and the faculty will connect each topic’s role in Ending the HIV Epidemic. \nLearning Objectives\nAt the end of this session\, you will be able to: \n\nOutline HIV and PrEP disparities in the United States.\nExplain the importance of utilizing a status neutral approach to Ending the HIV Epidemic in the US.\nSummarize current HIV prevention and treatment formulations and guidelines.\nReview common side effects of PrEP and HIV treatment.\nIdentify barriers and opportunities to increase PrEP uptake and retain persons living with HIV in care.\n\nContinuing education credits are available for this webinar\, pending approval. \nFaculty: Dr. Tyris Ford\nDr. Tyris Ford is a Doctor of Nursing Practice board-certified Nurse Practitioner practicing Family Medicine and Sexual and Reproductive Health\, including HIV care\, in the DMV. Dr. Ford strives to uplift the health and wellness of Black\, Indigenous\, people of color\, and sexual and gender minority individuals within the region. He uses a patient-centered model and holistically approaches healthcare by addressing one’s mental\, spiritual\, and physical health. He has worked in the healthcare field for over ten years and recently served as a Director of Clinical Services for a community-based organization. Currently\, Dr. Ford continues to practice Family Medicine in a local private practice while building his own healthcare business. One of his many goals is to cultivate positive social change and significantly contribute to Ending the HIV Epidemic.
