SUMMARY:Prevention and Treatment of HIV and Hepatitis C in People with Opioid Use Disorder
DESCRIPTION:Among persons living with HIV in the United States\, an estimated 15 to 30% have HCV coinfection. For persons living with HIV who have HCV coinfection\, liver-related morbidity and mortality is a prominent non-AIDS-related complication—up to 80 to 90% of liver-related deaths in persons living with HIV are attributable to HCV infection-and proper treatment remains a priority. This webinar will discuss HIV/HCV co-infection\, particularly among people who inject drugs\, and evidence-based prevention and treatment strategies. \nCEU Available \nLearning Objectives: \n\nDiscuss the epidemiology of HIV and HCV infections in populations of people who use drugs\, particularly those who inject drugs.\nOutline established and emerging strategies to prevent infection in these individuals.\nEvaluate the approach to treatment of HIV and HCV in these individuals.\n\nFaculty:\nMark Sulkowski\, MD\, is a Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Director of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. He is founding Director of the Johns Hopkins Office of Clinical Trials and Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Trials and Research in the Capital Region (CAPRES). He also serves as the Medical Director of the Viral Hepatitis Center in the Divisions of Infectious Diseases and Gastroenterology/Hepatology in the Department of Medicine. DESCRIPTION:This 90-minute webinar will map current research on the needs\, issues\, and structures facing LGBTQ+ youth in the child welfare system\, as well as the possibilities and challenges for future research\, improved care\, and evidence-based advocacy to ensure LGBTQ+ youth have the material and emotional care to survive and thrive in natal or new family settings. SUMMARY:Intimate Partner Violence Among Sexual & Gender Minority Populations
DESCRIPTION:Intimate partner violence (IPV) is prevalent in gender and sexual minority populations\, including among lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, transgender\, and queer (LGBTQ+) people. IPV is also associated with numerous mental and physical health problems in these populations. Despite this\, few resources and treatments exist that are culturally appropriate for and specifically tailored to the needs of these groups. DESCRIPTION:Ending the HIV Epidemic in the US (EHE) is an ambitious initiative that aims to reduce new HIV infections in the US by 90% by 2030 by scaling up key HIV prevention and treatment strategies. \nJoin Alive! DESCRIPTION:The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) Behavioral Health Administration (BHA) and MedChi jointly sponsor a webinar series\, the BHA/MedChi Behavioral Health Webinar Series: Helping the Helpers and Those They Serve. \n\nThe January 12\, 2023 webinar presentation will focus on “Effective Self-Concept Versus Self-Sabotaging\,” presented by LaTanya Egleston\, MA. \n\nThese webinars are for Maryland’s behavioral health and medical health care workers of all disciplines\, whether working in community or hospital settings. They are designed to enhance both health care worker self-care and resultantly the care they provide\, as health care workers combat numerous stressors including the COVID-19 pandemic\, social justice issues\, and other stressors that can potentially impact delivered care. \nCMEs will be available at no cost\, as will Participant Certificates\, which for other disciplines may qualify for CEUs or other continuing education credit\, although these are not approved for CEUs by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners.
