SUMMARY:Strategies to Address Intersectional Stigma
DESCRIPTION:Living with HIV can be challenging in many regards. People living with HIV are complex individuals who are more than their viral loads and treatment regimens. They often face a variety of stigmatizing situations and people. Additionally\, intersectional stigmas further complicate the lives and health outcomes of people living with HIV. \nJoin Alive! Maryland on Tuesday\, July 18\, 2023 at 1:00pm ET for an interactive webinar that will discuss strategies for considering the multiple stigmas patients face and how to minimize their impact. \nLearning Objectives \nAt the end of this session\, you will be able to: \n\nDescribe different types of stigmas and how they can affect people living with HIV\nIdentify ways to reduce or eliminate the use of stigmatizing language\nAddress the effects of stigmatizing terms and phrases on healthcare and patient outcomes\nDiscuss intersectional stigma and the importance of addressing each patient as an individual\n\nPlease note that continuing education credits are not available for this webinar. \nFaculty: Valerie Wojciechowicz \nValerie Wojciechowicz has been in the HIV field for 27 years. She has created and managed medical peer programs\, speaking programs\, and trainings with the goals of erasing stigma and discrimination and helping others see the value of eliminating stigmatizing language around HIV. Her experiences as a long-term survivor\, living with HIV for 37 years\, have motivated her to work tirelessly locally\, statewide\, and nationally. Valerie uses her experience as a woman living with HIV since the age of 23 to educate\, advocate\, and provide support. She is extremely passionate about improving the quality of life and education for the HIV and AIDS communities and plans to continue working toward these goals.

SUMMARY:Promoting Equity in BIPOC Healthcare through Community Engagement and PrEP Initiatives
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will discuss how to promote equity\, improve access\, and increase retention in care among BIPOC communities in healthcare. Barriers and myths relating to PrEP use in BIPOC communities will be identified and dispelled to encourage patients’ use of PrEP while emphasizing the importance of a strong patient-provider relationship.
