Best Practices for Providing Affirming Care
August 16 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm EDT
For gender diverse individuals who have experienced stigma and discrimination, the relationship that is built with a provider is critical for positive healthcare experiences. Negative experiences can contribute to hesitancy to seek healthcare and result in poorer health outcomes. Providers should make their practices welcoming and affirming for gender diverse people by communicating with knowledge and understanding about common needs, health concerns, and barriers to care that LGBTQ communities experience.
Join us on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at 2:00pm EDT for a webinar that will train providers on the basics of trauma-informed approaches to care. This webinar will review best practices for providing affirming care to clients who experience stigma and discrimination.
1. Recognize disparities and disaffirming experiences that can occur in healthcare communication practices.
2. Identify various biases and stigmas of providers that serve as barriers to care.
3. Describe best trauma-informed practices to utilize for building trust in patient-client relationships.
4. Describe strategies for use of affirming language and documentation to avoid re-traumatizing clients.
